1942 in war-torn Italy, a psychiatrist risks everything to change the meaning of care
6 x 60'
Brilliant psychiatrist Mario Tobino, recently returned from the war, begins work in the women’s ward of the Magliano psychiatric hospital. That same night, Margherita, publicly humiliated after a breakdown, is committed by her powerful husband, Filippo.
As months pass, Mario seeks to heal both his own war-torn mind and Margherita’s wounded spirit. Through compassion and a revolutionary new approach, he slowly wins her trust and the affection of other patients, though his methods clash with the authoritarian regime of the institute, led by the fascist Doctor Parisi. Finding allies in Doctor Anselmi, Nurse Zonin, and young Doctor Olivieri, Mario becomes a quiet force for change.
But as the war threatens the hospital’s future, Filippo conspires to strip Margherita of her possessions, while Mario’s past resurfaces in the form of Paola, his former love. Amid jealousy, danger, and betrayal, Mario must find a way to save Margherita from destruction.
