The remarkable story of the richest shipwreck discovery from the ancient world
1 x 60' or 90'
The Antikythera Shipwreck is the world’s richest ancient undersea wreck – the Titanic of antiquity. It sank in the Mediterranean in the first century BC, on route from the cultural powerhouse of Greece to the great superpower of the age, Rome. It carried magnificent treasures, marble statues and luxury goods – and also one of the ancient’s world’s greatest mysteries, the Antikythera Mechanism.
Dubbed the world’s first ‘analog computer’ (used as a plot device in the last Indiana Jones film), this unique piece of ancient technology has captivated the public imagination and intrigued scientists who’ve strived to unlock its workings as a complex device for making astronomical predictions. Only half of the Mechanism has yet been recovered. Could the remaining parts be lying on the seafloor waiting to be discovered?
