Immersive history series with BAFTA-winning broadcaster, barrister and author Rob Rinder and social historian Ruth Goodman
Seasons 1-2: 7 x 90'
From the streets of Roman towns to Tudor courts, Georgian city squares to Victorians workshops, life has always been experienced differently depending on how much money you have. Ruth Goodman and Rob Rinder explore how the rich and poor navigated life, discovering the joys, hardships, and unexpected surprises that defined each era.
This series delves into the ordinary as well as the extraordinary, showing how wealth and status shaped everything from work and leisure to food, fashion, and family life. Each episode follows real life characters from a distinct historical period, immersing Ruth and Rob in the experience of both the privileged upstairs and the resourceful downstairs. They uncover the inventive ways people adapted to their circumstances.
