Settling

Two disillusioned thirty-somethings decide to follow through on their teenage marriage pact, exploring what happens when you stop waiting for “the one” and settle for your best friend

Originating Territory: New Zealand

Three (New Zealand) - 6 x 30'

Harriet (Harry) finds herself at rock bottom in her thirties when she realises that her current lover Danny – who also happens to be her boss – has got his wife ‘accidentally’ pregnant. To make matters worse, she’s still living with her Mum and has no hope of buying a place on a single salary.

The last person who she expects to change her life is her old high school best friend Salman (Sal). He’s a single dad working an uninspiring corporate job and has given up on finding love. Their plan is simple: honour their teenage marriage pact and build the kind of life that their coupled-up friends seem to have – but remain ‘on the market’, still able to date. Because they’re definitely only together for practical reasons…

Their arrangement starts to change their lives in ways that they never expected. Now ‘taken’ Sal is catnip to women who friend-zoned him, and Harry slowly realises maybe the guy she’s supposed to be with is living in her house. No, surely not. This isn’t how love is supposed to go.
